Trek Questions
June to August is the main trekking season for high-altitude routes (K2, Gondogoro La, Biafo). July and August are best for wildflowers on Deosai. May and September to October suit lower-altitude treks (Hushe Valley, day hikes). Winter trekking is possible below 3,500m.
Depends on the route. Day hikes and Deosai crossing need no experience. Hushe Valley needs basic fitness. K2 Base Camp needs good cardiovascular fitness and prior high-altitude experience. Gondogoro La and Biafo-Hispar require glacier travel experience.
Balti porters are available in Skardu and at all major trail heads. They typically carry 25kg loads. Our packages include 1 porter per 2 trekkers. Porter wages are approximately USD 15 to 25 per day including their food and accommodation. Tips are customary and appreciated.
K2 Base Camp (Baltoro Glacier) requires a official trekking permit (approximately USD 150 to 200 for foreign nationals). A registered local guide is also mandatory. We handle all permit applications, you need only to send us a passport copy 3 to 4 weeks before your trek start.
Yes, Pakistan Army and private helicopter services operate rescue flights in Gilgit-Baltistan. This must be covered by your travel insurance. In clear weather, helicopters can reach most base camps within hours of an emergency call. We maintain satellite phone communication on all major treks.
