Deosai Plateau Crossing Trek

Walk across one of the highest plateaus on Earth, 3,000 km² of rolling alpine meadows, wildflower carpets, crystal rivers and Himalayan brown bears. Starting from Skardu and emerging in Astore, this is a remote 5-day crossing rarely done as a through-trek. Sheosar Lake, Bara Pani and complete wilderness are your companions.

Trek Itinerary

Day 1, Skardu to Sheosar Camp

4x4 to Deosai entry. Trek across undulating plateau to camp at Sheosar Lake (4,142m).

Day 2, Sheosar to Bara Pani

Full plateau crossing day. Brown bear sightings common at dawn. Wildflower meadows in July. Camp at Bara Pani (4,350m).

Day 3, Bara Pani to Chilam

Exit the main plateau. Trek down through transition zone toward Astore Valley.

Days 4 to 5, Chilam to Astore & Skardu

Reach Astore village. Jeep back to Skardu via different route.

Very likely in July and August, especially at dawn near Sheosar Lake and Bara Pani. Our guides know the best viewing spots.

Even in July, temperatures drop to 2 to 8°C at night on the plateau. We provide proper sleeping bags rated to -10°C.
