Deosai National Park β€” Land of Giants, The World's 2nd Highest Plateau

WildlifeWildflowersCampingPhotography4x4 Required

Deosai National Park is a vast, treeless plateau spanning over 3,000 square kilometres at an average elevation of 4,114m, among the highest plains in the world. Known locally as the "Land of Giants," it transforms into an endless carpet of wildflowers every summer and is one of the last strongholds of the Himalayan brown bear in South Asia.

The park is reached by 4x4 from Skardu via Satpara Lake, climbing roughly 1.5 to 2 hours to the plateau boundary. Regular cars cannot make the journey, the road is unpaved and requires genuine 4x4 capability throughout.

Deosai is only accessible from around June to September; it lies buried under snow the rest of the year. Late June through July brings peak wildflower bloom, while August and early September offer the best wildlife-spotting light and thinner crowds.
