Processing varies by nationality and individual application. Apply well in advance and travel only after receiving a valid approval from the official visa system.
Skardu and Gilgit-Baltistan are generally welcoming to visitors, but conditions and official travel advice can change. Check current government travel advice for your nationality, weather and road conditions before departure, and follow local guidance during the trip.
Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended. If your itinerary includes trekking, high altitude or remote areas, confirm that your policy covers those activities and any evacuation requirements specified by the operator, insurer or relevant authorities.
Bring USD cash and exchange at the bank or exchange offices in Skardu. ATMs in Skardu city have limited cash availability. Most hotels accept cards but restaurants and local shops are cash only. USD 500 to 1,000 is sufficient for a week of comfortable travel excluding accommodation.
