We get a lot of safety questions from solo travelers (covered in our dedicated safety post), but there's a practical side to solo Skardu travel that matters just as much.
Private 4x4 transport is typically priced per vehicle, not per person, so solo travelers pay a real premium compared to groups splitting the same vehicle cost. Joining a small-group departure, where available, is usually far more economical than booking a fully private solo tour.
Skardu city's hotels and the Shangrila Resort area are where you're most likely to naturally cross paths with other travelers, particularly in peak season (June to August). Joining a group-based tour rather than a fully private itinerary is the easiest way to meet people if that's part of what you want from the trip.
Our standard-type tours (rather than honeymoon or private luxury itineraries) most often run with mixed small groups, making them naturally more social and cost-effective for solo bookings. Ask us when enquiring whether a specific departure has other solo travelers or small groups already booked.
