Budget & Costs

A common misconception is that a luxury Skardu trip sees fundamentally different places than a budget one. In reality, the destinations are largely identical, what changes is comfort, pace and exclusivity.
| Budget (PKR 23,500 to 35,000) | Luxury (PKR 150,000+) | |
| Transport | Shared or standard private 4x4 | Premium Land Cruiser, private throughout |
| Hotels | Guesthouse / 3-star | Heritage forts, 5-star resorts |
| Pace | Efficient, fuller daily schedule | Relaxed, fewer stops per day |
| Guide | Shared/group guide | Private, senior guide |
| Destinations seen | Same core sights | Same core sights, plus more remote add-ons |
Shangrila, Deosai, Shigar Fort and the Kachura Lakes look the same regardless of your budget tier, the scenery isn't a luxury feature.
Comfort (bed quality, vehicle comfort), exclusivity (private vs shared arrangements), and pace (how rushed each day feels) are the real differences. A heritage fort stay (Shigar or Khaplu Fort Residence) is the one experience that's genuinely unique to the luxury tier, not just a more comfortable version of the same thing.
If budget is tight, a mid-range package still sees everything that matters. If you can afford it, one splurge night at a heritage fort is worth prioritising over upgrading every single night.
