Planning Your Trip

Islamabad to Gilgit is the primary air route into Gilgit and, by extension, Hunza, here's what to know before booking.
The flight is short (under an hour) and, like Skardu's, offers spectacular aerial mountain views on a clear day. PIA operates this route, with seasonal frequency increases through summer.
Gilgit's flight is a visual approach, similar to Skardu, and arguably even more sensitive to weather given the surrounding terrain. Cancellations and delays are a normal part of flying this route, not a rare exception, build your itinerary with that in mind.
Prices fluctuate with season and demand, generally rising through peak summer months. Book as early as your dates are fixed, particularly if traveling in July or August.
If you're combining Gilgit with Skardu in one trip, remember there's no direct flight between the two, see our Hunza to Skardu Travel Guide for how that overland connection works.
