Altitude is one of the most under-discussed practical concerns for Skardu travelers, not because it's dangerous for most people, but because a little preparation makes a real difference to how you feel.
Skardu city itself sits at 2,228m, generally not high enough to cause serious altitude sickness in healthy travelers, though some people notice mild breathlessness on arrival. Deosai National Park reaches 4,114m, where altitude effects become more noticeable for a wider range of people.
Mild headache, fatigue, and shortness of breath on exertion are common and usually resolve within a day or two. More serious symptoms (severe headache, vomiting, confusion, difficulty breathing at rest) are rare at these altitudes but should never be ignored.
Our guides are experienced in pacing itineraries around altitude and can adjust the schedule if anyone in your group needs extra acclimatisation time.
