Khamosh Waterfall

Khamosh Waterfall — “khamosh” meaning “silent” or “quiet” in Urdu — is located in Hamzigon village in Kharmang district, roughly 3 hours from Skardu city via the Skardu-Kargil road. Less visited than its more famous neighbour Manthoka, Khamosh offers a quieter, more secluded waterfall experience in the same general region, living up to its name in a way that Manthoka — with its footbridges and tea stalls — doesn’t quite match.

A Quieter Alternative to Manthoka

Both waterfalls sit within Kharmang district and are reached via a similar general route, but Khamosh sees meaningfully fewer visitors — partly because it’s less developed for tourism, and partly because Manthoka’s more accessible viewing platform and roadside tea stalls make it the natural first stop for most travelers. For those willing to continue a little further, Khamosh rewards the effort with a genuinely more secluded experience, often with no other visitors present at all.

Hamzigon Village

The waterfall takes its immediate setting from Hamzigon, a small village typical of the Kharmang district’s agricultural communities. A visit here offers a chance to see village life in a part of Baltistan considerably less touristed than Skardu city or even Khaplu, with apricot orchards and terraced fields forming the backdrop to the waterfall itself.

Combining Khamosh with Manthoka

Most visitors combine both waterfalls on the same excursion into Kharmang district, given the modest additional travel time between them. This pairing offers a useful contrast — Manthoka’s more developed, accessible viewing experience alongside Khamosh’s quieter, more untouched character — giving visitors a fuller picture of what Kharmang’s waterfalls have to offer rather than seeing just one.

Best Time to Visit

May through October offers the most reliable water flow and easiest access; like Manthoka, winter can bring partial freezing of the falls, offering a very different seasonal character for those visiting Kharmang district outside the main travel season.
