Seven days is the sweet spot for a first Skardu trip β enough time to see the region’s signature sights without feeling rushed, and short enough to fit into a normal annual leave allowance. Here’s the itinerary we’ve refined over hundreds of departures.
Day-by-day breakdown
- Day 1: Fly or drive in, check in, relax at Shangrila Resort
- Day 2: Upper Kachura Lake hike and boat ride, Satpara Lake
- Day 3: Full-day Deosai National Park expedition β Sheosar Lake, wildflowers
- Day 4: Shigar Fort heritage tour, Katpana Cold Desert
- Day 5: Khaplu Valley β Khaplu Palace, Chaqchan Mosque, Manthoka Waterfall
- Day 6: Kharpocho Fort hike, Skardu Bazaar, local food
- Day 7: Fly or drive home
Why this order works
We front-load the lower-altitude, gentler sights (Shangrila, Kachura) before the full-day Deosai trip, which is the most physically demanding day due to altitude (Deosai sits at 4,114m). Ending with Khaplu and the city day gives you a lighter finish before travelling home.
Flexibility built in
Skardu flights are weather-dependent, so if you’re flying, build one buffer day into your plans if possible β our own 7-Day Skardu Road Trip and 5-Day Skardu Air Package follow this same core structure, just compressed or extended depending on how you’re travelling in.
