Skardu Airport is small, but knowing what to expect on arrival makes your first hour in the region much smoother.
The approach itself
The final approach into Skardu is genuinely spectacular β a visual descent through mountains, with Nanga Parbat visible on clear days. Grab a window seat if you can.
On the ground
The terminal is compact β baggage typically arrives quickly compared to major city airports. There’s a small arrivals area with a few local vendors; don’t expect the amenities of a major international terminal.
Getting into town
If you’ve booked with a tour operator, your guide or driver will typically be waiting directly outside arrivals with a name sign. Independent travelers can find taxis just outside, though pre-arranged transport is more reliable, especially if you’re arriving with a lot of luggage or arriving late in the day.
SIM cards and cash
We’d recommend buying your local SIM in Islamabad before flying in, and carrying some Pakistani Rupees cash β options at Skardu Airport itself are limited for both.
All of our airport-inclusive tour packages include a meet-and-greet directly at arrivals, so this entire process is handled for you.
