Cherry Blossom vs Autumn in Skardu β€” Which Season Wins?

July 7, 2026 Β· 7 min read

Spring blossom and autumn foliage are Skardu’s two standout “colour seasons” β€” each transforms Shigar Valley’s orchards into something genuinely spectacular, but in very different ways.

Cherry Blossom (April) Autumn Foliage (Late Sept)
Window length Short β€” 2-3 weeks, weather-dependent Slightly longer β€” most of late September
Colour Pink and white blossom against bare peaks Gold and amber poplar and apple foliage
Deosai access Closed β€” still under snow Open until early October
Crowds High in early April, hotels book up fast Noticeably thinner
Hotel prices Peak-adjacent pricing Softer, better value
Weather Cold mornings (0-8Β°C), mild afternoons Stable and mild (15-22Β°C early autumn)

Choose cherry blossom if…

The specific pink-and-white bloom against snow-capped peaks is the image you have in mind, and you’re willing to book well ahead and accept a narrower, weather-dependent window. Note that Deosai isn’t accessible yet in April.

Choose autumn if…

You want the fuller Skardu experience β€” Deosai still open, better hotel value, thinner crowds β€” alongside genuinely beautiful golden foliage that’s less internationally known than the spring blossom but, in the view of many of our own guides, just as photogenic.

Our honest take

If forced to pick one, autumn offers the better overall trip β€” you get foliage plus full access to Deosai plus better prices. Cherry blossom wins only if that specific bloom is your singular priority and you’re willing to build your entire trip timing around a narrow window. See our dedicated Cherry Blossom Spring Tour and Autumn Colours Tour for season-specific itineraries.
