Skardu Weather & Temperature Guide — Month by Month

July 3, 2026 · 7 min read

Skardu’s weather varies more across the year — and across a single day — than most first-time visitors expect. Here’s the realistic picture.

Spring (March–May)

Daytime: 10–20°C. Nighttime: 0–8°C. Blossom season peaks in April; Deosai is still closed under snow.

Summer (June–August)

Daytime: 20–27°C. Nighttime: 10–15°C. Peak season — every road and pass open, including Deosai, which is at its greenest and warmest (though still noticeably cooler than Skardu city itself, given the 4,114m altitude).

Autumn (September–November)

Daytime: 15–22°C early, dropping to 5–15°C by late October. Nighttime can dip below freezing by late autumn. Deosai typically closes around early October.

Winter (December–February)

Daytime: -5–8°C. Nighttime: often well below freezing, down to around -15°C. Deosai is fully closed; Skardu city and Shigar Valley remain the accessible core.

A few practical notes

  • Temperature swings meaningfully between day and night year-round — always pack a layer, even in summer
  • Deosai’s 4,114m altitude means it runs noticeably colder than Skardu city itself, regardless of season
  • Mountain weather changes quickly — a clear morning doesn’t guarantee a clear afternoon, particularly relevant for flight planning
