Islamabad–Gilgit is the primary air route into Gilgit and, by extension, Hunza — here’s what to know before booking.
Flight time and airlines
The flight is short (under an hour) and, like Skardu’s, offers spectacular aerial mountain views on a clear day. PIA operates this route, with seasonal frequency increases through summer.
Weather reliability
Gilgit’s flight is a visual approach, similar to Skardu, and arguably even more sensitive to weather given the surrounding terrain. Cancellations and delays are a normal part of flying this route, not a rare exception — build your itinerary with that in mind.
Ticket prices
Prices fluctuate with season and demand, generally rising through peak summer months. Book as early as your dates are fixed, particularly if traveling in July or August.

- Add a buffer day if this is the first leg of a longer Hunza or Gilgit-Baltistan itinerary
- Keep a road-transport backup plan in mind — the KKH connects Islamabad to Gilgit overland if flights are disrupted for multiple days
