Karachi is the furthest major Pakistani city from Skardu, so getting the logistics right matters more here than for any other departure point.
Option 1: Fly, fly
Fly Karachi to Islamabad (around 2 hours), then connect onward to Skardu. This is by far the fastest option and the one we recommend for most Karachi travelers, especially if your total trip is under 10 days.
Option 2: Full overland road trip
Genuinely committed road-trippers do drive the entire way — Karachi to Islamabad is roughly 20–24 hours of driving on its own, typically split over two days, before even starting the Islamabad–Skardu leg. This adds up to a serious multi-day commitment each direction.
Option 3: Hybrid
Fly Karachi to Islamabad, then choose to fly or drive onward to Skardu depending on how much of the Karakoram Highway experience you want.
