Skardu flights are one of the most scenic short-haul routes anywhere β and also one of the most weather-sensitive. Here’s how to book smart.
Who flies the route
PIA and Airblue both operate IslamabadβSkardu flights; frequency varies seasonally, with more flights during peak summer months.
Why delays happen
Skardu’s airport requires visual approach through mountainous terrain rather than instrument landing, meaning flights only operate in clear conditions. Morning flights generally have better success rates than afternoon ones, since cloud cover tends to build through the day.
How to book smart
- Choose morning flights where possible
- Build at least one buffer day into your itinerary, especially at the start of your trip
- Avoid booking a same-day onward international connection right after your Skardu return flight
If your flight is cancelled
Airlines typically rebook you on the next available flight, but in a multi-day weather system this can mean a wait of a day or more. Having a road-transfer backup plan (or booking with an operator who can arrange one) is the safest hedge β it’s exactly why our own itineraries default to including a buffer day wherever timing allows.
